Based in NYC, Pin-up is an architecture magazine that even non-architects can enjoy. Think of the center stories in Apartamento (the bit that does a deep dive on a significant home), but a whole magazine.

This issue is centered around ‘Domesticity’ and is guest-edited by Frida Escobedo. Lots of designer spotlights and dreamy photo spreads per usual. And, yet another little die-cut to keep things interesting.

Great for: Cool graphic designers, people who love getting nerdy about vintage chairs and architects.

One of the absolute staples in the indie magazine world, McSweeny’s has been publishing their literary quarterly since 1998! A feat!

Not only do they set the standard for their editorial curation, but they consistently push the boundaries of editorial design. Past issues have been composed of ‘junk mail’, a auditory issue with a complete sound experience to match the physical and even a lunchbox.

This issue is a clear stunner and super nostalgic for anyone who had a Lisa Frank binder. Interactive, creative and unexpected, this is McSweeney’s at its prime.

Great for: The book club host, your friend who is impossible to buy for, and anyone who admires true craftsmanship.

During a grey and cold winter, what could be a better magazine to read than a botanical one? Blumenhaus comes out of France and is more art book than magazine at times.

While the storytelling is grounded and well-thought, the design is a true standout of this magazine. With collage-like layouts, rich colors and textures, creative type, and, of course, pictures of unbeatable nature, each issue is truly full of inspiration.

Great For: Anyone who can turn bodega flowers into an art installation, green thumbs and people who fantasize about ‘cottage’ living.
